Rio Tinto and Prysmian Supply Low-Carbon Aluminum Cables to Amazon Data Center
According to reports on October 9, Rio Tinto and Prysmian supplied low-carbon aluminum cables to an Amazon data center in Ohio. The aluminum was produced using ELYSIS™ inert anode technology—which eliminates direct greenhouse gas emissions during the smelting process—marking the first known use of inert anode-smelted aluminum in a data center. Through their collaboration with Amazon, the companies have also extended the application of low-carbon aluminum to AI infrastructure, helping to reduce the embodied carbon in the electrical systems supporting rapid data center expansion and opening up another downstream application for near-zero carbon aluminum.
