Hydro Appoints Hanne Simensen as New EVP of Bauxite & Alumina

According to reports on October 2, Hanne Simensen will assume the role of Executive Vice President (EVP) of Bauxite & Alumina at Norsk Hydro, effective November 1, 2026. She succeeds John Thuestad, who is stepping down after holding the position for eight years. Simensen joined Hydro in 1994 and has held various senior positions within the company. She has served as EVP of Aluminium Metal since 2024, having previously held roles such as EVP of People & HSE, SVP and Head of Commercial Aluminium Metal, and SVP and Head of Global Business Services. She holds a Master’s degree in Management from BI Norwegian Business School. Thuestad, 66, has served as EVP of Bauxite & Alumina since 2018. He joined Hydro in 2017, following previous roles including EVP at SAPA (2012–2017), President of Alcoa’s Primary Products Group (2007–2012), and CEO of Elkem (2005–2007). With this leadership transition, Simensen will take charge of Hydro’s Bauxite & Alumina business starting November 1, as Thuestad steps down after an eight-year tenure.
