MEC to Invest $26 Million in Georgia Metal Fabrication Facility, Adding 140 Jobs
According to reports on October 7, Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) plans to invest approximately $26 million to establish a metal fabrication facility in Thomson, Georgia. The project is expected to create about 140 jobs. MEC also provides aluminum extrusion services. The company will renovate an existing building at 1048 Superior Way in Thomson for the new facility, with renovation and equipment installation taking place over the coming years. Staff will be recruited for roles in management, administration, technical work, operations, maintenance, and quality control. MEC President and CEO Jag Reddy stated, "As we continue to grow, our need for talent increases; we look forward to hiring locally in McDuffie County for positions in operations, skilled trades, and management as we invest in the Thomson facility." He added that the new facility would strengthen the company's manufacturing network and enhance its ability to serve customers. The McDuffie County Development Authority and Georgia Quick Start are collaborating with MEC on the project, with Senior Project Manager Adela Kelley representing the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Founded in 1945, MEC offers services including aluminum extrusion, coating, assembly, and aftermarket support, serving the commercial vehicle, data center, and construction industries.
