IAI: Global Alumina Production Reaches 13.178 Million Tonnes in August
According to data released by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) on September 30, global alumina production in August 2026 totaled 13.178 million tonnes, with an average daily output of 425,100 tonnes. The figure for July was revised to 13.024 million tonnes. IAI data covers major alumina-producing countries and regions worldwide, reflecting trends in global alumina supply. August production increased by approximately 154,000 tonnes compared to the revised July figure, indicating an overall upward trend in global alumina output. The data shows that China's estimated alumina production was 8.01 million tonnes in August 2026, up from 7.83 million tonnes in July. As the world's largest alumina producer, China's output fluctuations significantly impact the global market. China's alumina production rose by 180,000 tonnes in August—a month-on-month increase of approximately 2.3%—continuing the growth trend. This sustained rise in production is primarily driven by growing domestic demand from aluminum smelters and the ramp-up of new capacity. As a core component of the global aluminum supply chain, changes in China's alumina output directly influence global supply-demand dynamics and price trends.
