MINO Strengthens India’s Aluminium Rolling Technology Amid Rising Domestic Manufacturing Investment
Meta Description: Italian rolling technology provider MINO has launched a local Indian subsidiary to support the country’s expanding aluminium flat-rolled production. Combined with new domestic capacity from Hindalco, the move helps reduce India’s reliance on imported high-value aluminium products.
India’s aluminium industry is accelerating its shift toward higher-value flat-rolled products, driven by new investments in rolling capacity and specialised processing technology. Despite the expansion, imports still meet a substantial share of the country’s flat-rolled aluminium demand, leaving significant room for domestic manufacturing development.
A key milestone in this transition came in January 2026, when Hindalco Industries commissioned a 170,000-tonne-per-year flat-rolled products and battery-grade aluminium foil facility in Odisha. The INR 45 billion ($490 million) project targets to cut India’s nearly 40% import dependence on flat-rolled aluminium by almost half, supporting domestic demand from electric mobility, packaging and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Against this backdrop, Italian rolling technology manufacturer MINO has established MINO Rolling Technology India, a Navi Mumbai-based entity that links Indian customers to the group’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities in Italy. The local operation builds on MINO’s existing track record supplying rolling equipment to India’s aluminium processing sector.
A flagship example of MINO’s work in India is the successful commissioning of a four-high aluminium cold rolling mill at Jupiter Aluminium Industries (JUPALCO). The mill produced its first coil in August 2025, marking its transition to full production. Engineered to process aluminium strip up to 2,300 mm wide, the facility integrates advanced process control and automation technologies, demonstrating how international specialised rolling equipment can upgrade India’s downstream aluminium manufacturing base.
Cold rolling is a critical process for producing aluminium strip with the precise thickness, surface quality and flatness required for packaging, automotive, construction, electrical equipment and consumer goods applications. MINO’s involvement goes beyond equipment supply, creating a practical bridge between its global engineering expertise and Indian processors’ ambitions to manufacture higher-value products.
MINO Rolling Technology India serves as a single local point of contact for customers and partners, covering end-to-end support from initial technical consultations and feasibility studies through to engineering, project execution and after-sales service. The unit operates as part of the wider MINO Group, connecting Indian projects to the company’s engineering and manufacturing hubs in Italy and its global business network.
“Our investment in India reflects the strategic importance of this market and our commitment to being closer to our customers,” said MINO president Cesare Pettazzi. “The local presence allows us to combine international engineering expertise with strengthened on-the-ground support.”
MINO’s technology portfolio spans hot rolling, cold rolling and foil rolling, alongside process control systems, automation, mill revamping and technical services, with capabilities across aluminium, copper and steel. For India’s aluminium sector, this breadth comes at a time when domestic producers are increasingly prioritising flat-rolled products and specialised applications, where equipment performance and process control directly determine finished product quality and consistency.
India’s ongoing downstream aluminium expansion, paired with its continued reliance on imported flat-rolled products, frames the wider opportunity for MINO’s local investment. The company’s new Indian operation, together with its completed Jupiter Aluminium mill project, illustrates how international technology expertise and domestic manufacturing investment can work in tandem as the country builds out its aluminium processing capabilities.
